Nick Sung is one of the few people I feel comfortable talking to about anything. I mean anything—J.D. Salinger, New York’s best pizza, the Beatles, or Canada’s winter.
But the craft of storytelling (narratology) is one of our most common topics, and John Yorke’s Into the Woods is probably the book we reference the most. When we found out Yorke is releasing his second book, Trip to the Moon, we knew we would spend hours sharing opinions—so why not turn it into something?
We’ve always wanted to collaborate, but what form should it take? A podcast? A book club? Is another keynote speech from us really needed? What’s our angle? What’s our niche?
That’s when we realized we were overthinking it.
We live in an age of information overload, where every piece of information you need is just a click away. We want to return to what makes us human—conversation. Once we understood that, we reached out to our friend Joe Deahl, an incredible storyteller, and asked if he wanted to join us on this journey to share his insights and wisdom.
The three of us will host a guided reading of Trip to the Moon, meeting online on Saturdays for five sessions, from February 28 through April 25.
THIS IS NOT A CLASS ON STORY.
It’s a series of intimate conversations among three friends, geeking out on a subject we love. We have no idea what the book will reveal or where it will take us, but we’re excited to explore it together.
If you’re interested, join us.
